Sculptra (Poly-L-Lactic Acid)
Sculptra works differently from a gel filler: it builds change slowly over weeks rather than adding instant volume. That timeline, and the fact that it cannot be dissolved, makes careful selection of the clinic and the injector especially important.
How it works
Poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible, absorbable material supplied as a powder, mixed with sterile fluid and injected into the deeper layers of the skin. It does not fill space by itself. Instead it prompts the body to produce collagen around the particles, so skin may look firmer and fuller gradually over several weeks to months. A short series of sessions is typical, and results can last well over a year in some people, though they vary by person. Because there is no enzyme to reverse it, placement and dilution matter.
Who it may suit
- Gradual restoration of cheek or temple volume
- Mild to moderate skin laxity where texture and firmness are the concern
- People who prefer a subtle, slowly developing change
- Those who want to avoid an immediate filled look
- Facial aging that involves both volume loss and thinning skin
The treatment day
- Assessment. The doctor evaluates volume loss, skin thickness and how much improvement a series might realistically provide.
- Preparation of the product. The powder is mixed with sterile fluid, with the vial and lot visible to you. Reconstitution time and dilution are set by the doctor.
- Injection. The mixture is placed in the deeper layers using a cannula or needle, in small amounts across the area.
- Massage and review. You are shown how to massage the area at home as instructed, and the next session is planned.
Aftercare
- Follow the massage routine exactly as your doctor describes it.
- Use cool compresses for swelling and avoid hard exercise for a day or two.
- Avoid saunas and very hot showers on the first day.
- Expect gradual change; do not judge the result in the first few days.
- Report firm lumps, persistent redness or pain to the clinic.
Things to know first
- Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common for a few days.
- Nodules or lumps can form under the skin, sometimes appearing weeks later, and may be slow to resolve.
- Because the effect cannot be reversed with an enzyme, overcorrection is hard to undo.
- Vascular complications, though rare, remain possible with any injection.
- Active infection, autoimmune conditions, a history of keloid scarring, pregnancy and breastfeeding warrant discussion or avoidance.
What to check before booking Sculptra in Gangnam
Technique is the main thing to judge. Because nodules are the most widely known risk, ask how the doctor dilutes the product, how long it is left to reconstitute, how deep it is placed and whether a cannula is used. A doctor who answers specifically, and who describes a conservative number of sessions rather than a fixed package, is showing the judgment this product needs.
Authenticity is the second check. Sculptra is supplied in sealed vials, and the box should carry a label and lot number. Ask to see them and have the vial prepared in front of you. Be cautious of a clinic that describes a similar collagen stimulator as the same thing, or that cannot state which product is being used. Other collagen stimulators exist and are legitimate, but you should know which one you are paying for.
Finally, read the quote closely. A clear one states how many vials are included per session, how many sessions are planned and whether review visits are covered. Because results take weeks, a good plan includes a check before more product is added. If a proposal asks you to prepay for a large course before the first one has been judged, take it home and compare it with another consultation.
Sculptra (Poly-L-Lactic Acid): common questions
How soon will I see a difference?
Change is gradual, often noticeable over several weeks to a few months. It varies by person.
Why is massage required?
Massage helps spread the product evenly, which may lower the chance of lumps. Your doctor will give exact instructions.
Can Sculptra be dissolved?
No. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, it has no dissolving enzyme, so careful dosing matters.
How many sessions are usual?
Often two to three sessions several weeks apart, but this depends on your face and goals.
