How it works

Discovery Pico, from Quanta System, combines picosecond and Q-switched Nd:YAG capabilities in one platform. Very short pulses fragment pigment and ink, and the device may offer several wavelengths and handpieces. Because the same machine can run different modes, the mode chosen shapes both effect and downtime. Results vary.

• Ask which mode, picosecond or Q-switched, will be used and why.
• Confirm the wavelengths and the intended purpose of each.
• Disclose melasma history, recent sun exposure, and relevant medications.
• Redness, swelling, and temporary darkening can occur; blistering and pigment change are uncommon but possible.

Checking a Discovery Pico treatment before you book

A multi-mode laser offers flexibility, and that flexibility is why the plan should be spelled out. Two sessions on the same machine can feel quite different depending on the mode.

Ask how the clinic decides the interval between sessions, and what signs would lead the doctor to pause. That kind of answer shows an awareness of pigment risk.
