Spectra
Spectra is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser from Lutronic; ask how it is used for toning, carbon peels, or tattoos.
How it works
Spectra is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser made by Lutronic. It delivers short, high-energy pulses at 1064 nm, and at 532 nm when that mode is available, to break up pigment and ink. At lower settings it is used for toning, and with a carbon lotion it is used in carbon laser peels. Results and downtime depend on the settings.
Good to know
- Ask which use is intended: toning, carbon peel, or tattoo work.
- Clarify energy level, spot size, and number of sessions.
- Discuss melasma history, since aggressive settings can worsen it.
- Mild redness is common; pigment change, bruising, and, with strong settings, blistering are possible.
Checking a Spectra treatment before you book
One machine, many menu items: Spectra appears under toning, carbon peeling, and tattoo removal. The name of the laser therefore tells you little by itself, and the question to ask is how settings differ between those uses.
Ask how the clinic judges whether pigment is responding, and what it does if the skin looks darker or blotchier after a few sessions.
Spectra: common questions
Is laser toning the same as a carbon peel?
No. Both can use this laser, but the settings, preparation, and goals differ.
Does it work for melasma?
It may help some people, and caution is needed because melasma can rebound.
How many sessions are typical?
It varies by concern, and the doctor should explain the reasoning.
