miraDry
miraDry uses microwave thermolysis for underarm sweat; verify the doctor's role, numbing, and what recovery involves.
How it works
miraDry is a microwave thermolysis system for underarm sweating. A handpiece delivers microwave energy while cooling protects the skin surface, and the heat is intended to reduce the sweat glands in the treated area. The procedure is done with local anesthesia. Reduction in sweat and odor may be lasting for some people, though results vary and some sweat remains.
Good to know
- Ask how many sessions are planned and what recovery involves.
- Clarify who performs the numbing injections and the treatment.
- Disclose pacemakers, implanted devices, and skin conditions in the area.
- Swelling, tenderness, and temporary numbness are common; skin burns and nerve effects are uncommon but possible.
Checking a miraDry treatment before you book
Because this procedure involves injections and a recovery period, it should be handled as a medical procedure. Ask about the doctor's experience with it and how the treatment area is mapped.
Compare it candidly with botulinum toxin, which is another option for underarm sweating with a different approach. A thoughtful doctor will explain both and not push only one.
