HIFU Lifting
HIFU lifting is one of the most heavily marketed treatments in Gangnam, and menu names often hide which machine is behind them. The device category matters less than the person guiding it and the reasoning behind the plan. This page lists what a careful buyer can check.
How it works
High-intensity focused ultrasound sends energy to small points at set depths below the surface, warming them enough to prompt a tightening response over the following weeks. Some systems add real-time imaging so the operator can see tissue layers, while others rely on fixed-depth cartridges. The change is gradual and varies by person, and it is milder than surgery. Results depend on skin thickness, how much laxity is present and how the energy is distributed.
Who it may suit
- Mild to moderate looseness along the jawline or cheeks
- People who want little visible recovery time
- Early sagging where surgery is not yet being considered
- Those who accept gradual, modest change
The treatment day
- Assessment. The doctor examines facial structure, skin thickness and laxity, and asks about implants, fillers, medications and prior treatments in the area.
- Planning and marking. Treatment zones are marked and the device, cartridge depth and shot count are explained. Ask to see the sealed cartridge before it is opened.
- Treatment. Numbing cream may be applied first. Energy is delivered in lines or points, and a deep, brief aching sensation is common at the jaw and cheekbone.
- Review. Redness is checked, aftercare is given in writing, and a follow-up point is set for the weeks when the effect develops.
Aftercare
- Use gentle cleansing and plain moisturizer for the first few days
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily
- Avoid very hot saunas and strenuous face massage for about a week
- Contact the clinic if you notice numbness, a firm lump or blistering
- Allow several weeks before judging the result
Things to know first
- Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising are possible
- Nerve irritation, numb patches or burns are uncommon but reported
- Results are modest and vary by person; very heavy laxity may need other options
- Tell the doctor about pregnancy, pacemakers, metal implants, active skin infection or fillers placed in the area
- Repeated or overlapping passes by an inexperienced operator raise the risk of side effects
What to check before booking HIFU lifting in Gangnam
Start with who holds the handpiece. Ask whether the doctor performs the treatment personally or a trained staff member does, and whether a physician is present. Because the energy lands near nerves and bone, the operator's judgment about depth and overlap matters more than the brand on the cart.
Then ask which device will be used by name. Systems differ: some provide ultrasound imaging, others use fixed depths, and a few use a different focused-energy design. None of these differences is wrong, but you should be told which one you are getting and why. For cartridge-based machines, ask to see the sealed package and the remaining shot counter. Reused or refilled cartridges can deliver energy outside the intended range.
Finally, judge the consultation. A good one includes a hands-on examination, a frank statement that results are gradual, and a plan that explains where shots go and why. A clear quote lists the device, the number of shots, any numbing, and follow-up, in writing. Be cautious if you are pressed to buy a large number of shots immediately or told the treatment replaces surgery.
HIFU Lifting: common questions
Does the device brand matter more than the doctor?
Both count, but the operator's judgment on depth, spacing and number of passes usually has a larger effect on safety. Ask who decides the settings and who performs the treatment.
How can I tell whether a cartridge is genuine?
Ask to see it sealed before it is opened and ask the staff to show the shot count on the screen. Clinics confident in their supply tend to agree readily.
Is HIFU suitable for everyone with sagging?
No. It is better matched to mild or moderate laxity. Heavy skin excess, certain implants, pregnancy and active infections may make it unsuitable, so an in-person assessment decides.
When will I see a change?
Any tightening tends to appear gradually over about one to three months and varies by person. Some people notice little change.
